Another one new to London. I went to visit German Gymnasium during London’s Lumiere Festival a week ago.
I’ve never been to a German restaurant outside of Germany, but I’m glad to have this option in London.
It’s comfort food, done well and nicely presented. Usually you don’t brag about the bread at a nice restaurant, but here I have to. It’s warm German bread after all. If you’ve lived in Germany, you’ll know the difference.
The restaurant itself is really beautiful and worth a visit just to see it. It’s an old converted gym which means this duplex venue also benefits from double height ceilings with beautifully restored arches. The space is huge and open, which means the atmosphere is always buzzing with chatter.
The upstairs serves a more formal dining menu, while the grand cafe downstairs is a bit more causal.
